Earth Science Internships

Take advantage of full-time internship positions in the earth science field. You’ll immerse yourself in the applied expertise that Chevron uses to find and deliver new energy reserves.

If you participate in an internship, you’ll have a chance to evaluate Chevron as a potential employer, while we learn more about your abilities as a potential new-hire. Although most of our internships are offered during the summer, we also host interns throughout the year.

What you’ll do

You’ll typically focus on a specific producing field or exploration project, so the results of your work may have an immediate impact. An interactive team environment will help you learn new technical skills and increase your understanding of project workflow. In addition, you’ll:

  • Learn about Petroleum Geoscience - this includes obtaining, interpreting and applying geological and geophysical data
  • See how our business operates in oil field and exploration endeavors
  • Sharpen your computer skills by using the latest workstation hardware and interpretive software

Most importantly, you’ll experience first-hand how Chevron people — skilled and dedicated individuals from diverse backgrounds — work together to deliver success.

Some examples of recent summer projects include:

  • Mapping reservoir sands in a California enhanced oil-recovery project, using well log and production data
  • Constructing a set of cross sections, structure maps and reservoir maps for a western Texas oil field to determine remaining oil potential
  • Applying sequence stratigraphic techniques in the construction of cross sections to delineate favorable reservoir faces in southern Texas
  • Conducting velocity analyses to enhance migration techniques for improved seismic imaging of Gulf of Mexico deep water prospects
  • Constructing isopach maps, fault plane maps and water injection sand maps in a Gulf of Mexico secondary recovery project
  • Correlating reservoir units and mapping reservoir sands in a Colorado oil field
  • Constructing structure maps, cross sections, isopachs and isochrones by interpreting seismic data and integrating the results with the geology to identify new exploration opportunities
  • Conducting a seismic stratigraphic study of the Laurentian sub basin on Canada’s East Coast using a multi-dimensional dataset, and building a regional, structural framework for the sub basin to identify trends
  • Conducting a stratigraphic study of the Mitsue Reservoir in western Canada using existing data to develop a depositional model, establishing the relationship of producing zones and quantifying the remaining potential of the field
