Human Resources Development Program

The Human Resources Development Program (HRDP) gives you the experience that can lead you towards a dynamic career in a Fortune 500 company. We prepare you to serve in a company focused on growth, where skills learned in graduate business school play an integral role in what you do — a company that stresses innovation, creativity and flexibility — a company like Chevron. Our Human Resources Development Program is the place to look for opportunities with an outstanding future.

Who we hire

Chevron has prospered because of its ability to manage change, look towards the future and encourage innovation. We know our continued success depends on identifying and developing talented professionals, with Master’s degrees in Human Resources or M.B.A.s with a Human Resources concentration, who can lead Chevron.

The HRDP seeks recent graduates and individuals with relevant work experience who have a passion for the role Human Resources has in helping the organization meet its objectives and who aspire to become senior-level managers.

We’re looking for people:

  • with demonstrated leadership skills
  • with strong communication abilities and a desire to be challenged with different assignments in various geographic locations
  • who enjoy the responsibility of new challenges and who understand new concepts quickly
  • who’re willing to move between different assignments as well as geographic locations

The HRDP receives unique attention from top Human Resources management. Senior Human Resources executives carefully select candidates and assignments. These executives are involved in both your development during the program and, in their role as long-term mentors, your continued development after you complete the program.

What you’ll do

During the HRDP you’ll go through four six-month rotational assignments within various corporate and operating company units. Three of the four assignments are generally:

  • Business Partner
  • Total Remuneration Analyst
  • Employee Relations Counselor

Other assignments will be determined based upon business needs and your developmental needs and interests.

While there is no specific sequence of assignments, they are selected to challenge you and to rapidly deepen your knowledge of Human Resources and Chevron’s business. These rotations will help you understand the different aspects of our operations and demonstrate your abilities to a broad range of managers, including senior executives.

Business Partner — As a Business Partner, you’ll provide generalist support to internal clients. Your responsibilities may include salary planning, support of senior management with employee development, customer satisfaction survey analysis and succession planning.

Total Remuneration Analyst — As a Total Remuneration Analyst, you’ll focus on either compensation or benefits, within the U.S. or globally. Benefits design, salary surveys, benefit plan administration, job evaluations and organizational redesign are all possible projects to which you may be assigned.

Employee Relations Counselor — As an Employee Relations Counselor, you’ll be the point of contact for 10 different HR processes including investigations, alternative dispute resolution, outplacement, redeployment, exit interviews and policy counsel.

Other Assignments — Other assignments will depend on your interests and development needs and those of the business. In the past, these assignments have included Planning Analyst in the HR Planning and Strategy organization, or Organizational Development consultant in our Global Workforce Development organization.

International assignments also provide the possibility of gaining direct exposure to global issues on an international assignment such as Business Partner in Nigeria or Angola. Other recent international assignments have allowed our HRDP participants to work on projects in Venezuela, Kazakhstan and Singapore.

We also have a large Human Resources presence in Houston, Texas and provide services from offices in London and South Africa. There is also the possibility of working at one of our operating facilities located around the world.

Summer Internships

Our summer internship program targets first-year graduate students who’d like to take a closer look at Chevron.

As an intern you’ll:

  • learn more about our people and our culture
  • typically work on specific projects over the course of the summer, that are as challenging and rewarding as the HRDP
  • have opportunities to interact with senior management and current program participants
  • be exposed to a variety of Chevron organizations, current and former HRDP participants, and senior Chevron management
  • gain an understanding of our business through formal presentations

Summer internships are generally in the U.S. in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, although assignments in nearby field locations are occasionally available.
