Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Basin and Petroleum System Modeling Specialist through July 6th, 2022 at 11:59 p.m.CST.  

The role requires that the successful candidate deliver business impact and develop differentiated Basin and Petroleum System Modeling technologies, workflows, and services to support exploration and development challenges.  

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • The position requires proven ability to work closely with other technical experts to provide input to optimize exploration and reservoir management decisions
  • Successful candidate of this position will be required to deliver on-demand service to Chevron business units, including building multi-dimensional basin models for petroleum systems in various geologic settings, analyzing and presenting results from hydrocarbon charge risk assessment for play risk and exploration reviews, participating in data-room visits, assisting with the evaluation of farm-in and farm-out opportunities, and representing Chevron as a subject matter expert in industry meetings.
  • The role also requires participation in strategic research and development projects to advance technology in petroleum system analysis, mentoring early career earth scientists and teaching basin analysis and basin modeling schools upon request.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: minimum master’s degree in geoscience.
  • Prior industrial work experience in basin and petroleum system modeling in multiple tectonic settings globally
  • Analytical skills required include strong geology background, deep understanding of the inter-relationships among petroleum system risk elements, familiar with common geologic data types (seismic, petrophysical, rock and fluid data), proficient in using industry standard basin modeling software packages to generate source rock maturity maps, hydrocarbon migration and accumulation scenarios, hydrocarbon phases and fluid property prediction, and hydrocarbon-in-place volume estimation.
  • Cross-functional collaborative skills with seismic interpretation, stratigraphy, geochemistry, structure, seal and reservoir quality specialists are essential.
  • Prior experiences in mentoring early career basin modelers and petroleum system analysts. 
  • Position may require travel to domestic or international Chevron or third-party locations to fulfill job responsibilities, consultation, and technical work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education / Certifications: Ph.D. degree in geology, hydrogeology or geochemistry
  • Prior user experience with multi-dimensional basin modeling software and workflows used within Chevron (PetroMod, Trinity, BasinMod) would be beneficial
  • Prior work experiences in petroleum geochemistry, including source rock assessment, hydrocarbon fluid analysis and reservoir geochemistry are a plus.
  • Prior experiences in creating and leading R&D programs in basin modeling.
