The Facilities & Equipment Operations Product Line Architect will work with Process Automation disciplines (Automation Analysts, Automation Engineers, Facilities Engineering, etc.) in various BU’s and the center to drive cohesion in the disparate portfolio of  PCN applications and deliver a set of business capabilities as technical services.  

The Role

This role requires a deep understanding of Process Automation requirements required by the BU customers of Surface Digital Platform/Process Automation matrixed organization and technical capabilities required to support the enterprise involving all aspects of application transformation (e.g., replacing / modernization, rationalization, etc.). These patterns need to be well understood along with modern deployment techniques (SaaS, PaaS, local hosting, etc.). Will also need to apply the appropriate decision-making criteria (technical / business / cost / security) and with oversight of the teams performing the actual work.

As a PCN Product Line Architect, you will:

  • Architecting / Delivering of assigned “product lines” within the Surface Digital Platform – Facility & Equipment Operations Product Line.  

  • Conducting Vendor evaluations using Modern PCN Architectures (ex Zones and Conduits) & Software Engineering criteria (i.e., not just against Feature requirements) and platform fit.

  • Understanding Digital Platform scope in the context of the bigger CDAS picture. Involves knowing when to build within the assigned Digital Platform, when to use other Digital Platform Services / Products, when to build “for another Digital platform and then hand it over.”  

  • Understand how to secure a PCN end-to-end by applying controls and collaborate with cyber security on respective policies. Continue to grow knowledge and understanding of OT threat vector and threat actors.

  • Provide lessons learned back to Surface Platform Architects to evolve Chevon Digital Architecture System (CDAS) and Chevron Engineering Standards - (e.g., Guardrails – Development Guides, Engineering Standards, CES and Playbooks)  

  • Managing multiple projects / small teams  

  • Be an influential leader, manage and develop the technical competencies within the platform, provide guidance on projects / programs within the platform and function as a technical advisor to the Platform Architects.

  • Advocate solid application development practices in the team covering testing, modularity, integration, scalability, reliability, and observability.

  • Oversees the modernization and migration of applications to cloud where applicable. Coaches and guides the teams on continuous integration and automated deployment for product..

Requirements

Experience

  • 10+ years of technical depth and breadth across the range of large-scale PCN architecture technologies.

  • Experience with Process Control system vendors

  • Demonstrated deep understanding of the methods, processes, and appropriate software engineering frameworks.

  • Demonstrated experience in all phases of Process Automation application Development Lifecycle (plan, design, develop, test, release, maintain and support, decommission)  

  • Demonstrated strong understanding of Process Control architectures and modern data architectures (e.g., Purdue model, Zones and Conduits, event driven architectures, data democratization, platform approaches to support Machine Learning (ML)/Artificial Intelligence (AI) at scale, stream processing, and integrating real time analytics into applications)   

  • Demonstrated application of systems thinking and strategic thinking skills.

  • Recognized as an implementer of technical solutions with demonstrations of ingenuity, innovation and creative solutions, and not simply “new” technology.

  • Ability to apply advanced principals, theories, and concepts where creative, innovative, and imaginative thinking is required.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of hardware, software, application, and systems engineering.

  • Has implemented or led technology deployment(s) with a global sphere of influence .

Skills

  • Demonstrated experience building solutions in multiple programming languages (preferably developing and debugging in C, python, IEC-1131 languages, etc.) on one or more development platforms  

  • Modern API platform design including how modern User Interfaces (UI) are built consuming services/API’s. 

  • Demonstrated understanding of Public cloud service offerings (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS services as well product offerings from Azure) and Infrastructure as Code (Container Orchestration, Observability, Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD).

Education

  • BS Degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering or related practical experience in this field
