
POSITION PURPOSE:
The purpose of this position is to provide coordination, action, and leadership to enhance continued compliance with Federal, State and local laws and regulations regarding environmental and safety systems, permits, regulations, policies and procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Continually improve company health, environmental and safety policies, standards, plans, and procedures. Maintain working knowledge of all health, environment and safety regulatory (EHS) requirements that affects the company.
Provide guidance to upper management on compliance strategies.
Apply state-of-the-art and innovative management techniques and engineering solutions, including information systems and engineering approaches to resolve EHS issues and to achieve program objectives on schedule.
Negotiate EHS issues with regulatory agencies to obtain appropriate permits and approvals for projects and programs designed to promote and enhance management systems or address deficiencies.
Enhance communications with other departments to ensure that EHS policies, standards, plans and procedures are followed.
Oversees the initiation and maintenance of operating permits, licenses, registrations and reports required by governmental agencies that conform to EHS related laws and regulations.
Develop and implement programs to improve EHS performance.
Establish and promote a culture where emergency responders develop a high level of participation and skill.
Develop and implement programs to enhance community and industrial relations.
Designated as the Company Loss Control Coordinator and demonstrates effective leadership for the success in the Loss Control programs.
Responsible for the development and monitoring of the departmental budget to insure appropriate fiscal responsibility.
Maintaining required records, and ensure the presentation of training programs, location and facility inspections, and compliance issues for all employees.
Manage, monitor and audit housekeeping records, hot work permits, and equipment maintenance schedules of updates/support at all locations to ensure compliance and status is current.
On-going education process to keep up to date with regulatory agency rules and compliance matters, especially those pertaining to OSHA, EPA, and IDNR.
Direct location management with compliance issues. Includes EAP (Emergency Action Plan), emergency contact list and disaster evacuation plans. Ensure location is current and up-do-date. This includes directing Plant Manager with the holding of drills on disaster evacuation on an annual basis.
Direct location with safety, health, and regulatory compliance issues in conjunction with EHS staff.
Coordinate with EHS staff in ensuring REG facilities and management are in full compliance with government regulations and insurance requirements and provides a safe work place for its employees.
Loss control responsibilities which include: conducting inspections and audits related to the Loss Control program as assigned, participating in Hazard Reviews as needed, recommending safety improvements, completion of safety action items as assigned, completing required regulatory training, and compliance with all applicable regulations

EXPOSURES:
Exposures may include: methanol, sodium methylate, vegetable oil and animal fats, caustic catalyst, neutralizing acids, hydrochloric acid, caustic soda, methyl esters, fatty acid, glycerin, surfactants, dyes, scents, dust, water, dirt, weather, temperature extremes, and medium to high noise levels.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The employee will have the ability to move freely throughout the facilities in order to direct and conduct a variety of activities.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelors degree or higher in engineering or related field, either in chemical, safety
or environmental discipline preferred. 5 years of plant experience with relevant industrial
experience. Working knowledge of federal, state and local HES related laws and regulations as it affects the plant.
Experience: 2 years practical safety/health experience in Ag business, chemical manufacturing, or production preferred.
Skills Required: Oral and written communication skills, along with the ability to use office/training equipment. Basic math, good organizational, and effective interpersonal skills are also a requirement of this position. Valid Driver’s Operators License and meet REG insurability requirements.
