Chevron is accepting online applications for the position Process Control Engineer through September 23rd, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. (CDT). 

The Process Control Engineer will play a critical role in the design, implementation, and maintenance of process control systems for Biodiesel and Renewable Diesel production facilities at Chevron REG. This position requires a combination of Process Control Optimization expertise, Alarm Management knowledge, Operational Technology (OT) Information Risk Management skills, and Proficiency in AVEVA PI Software operational data maintenance and updates.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Design and implement process control strategies to optimize plant operations, ensuring compliance with Chevron standards.
  • Provide technical leadership in process control optimization projects and initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for process control systems and procedures, including control narratives, interlock and alarm lists.
  • Serve as Chevron REG SME for PI System and associated production data historian applications and provide leadership to the BU on best practices associated with PI / data historian applications
  • Configuration and management of operational data within AVEVA PI software, including interfaces with external data sources and sinks as well as development of PI displays and reports.
  • Conduct OT Information Risk Assessments and develop mitigation strategies to protect control systems and data, in line with Chevron Policy 575, ISA 62443, and NIST 800-53 standards.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of disaster recovery plans for control systems.
  • Oversee Alarm Management initiatives, including facilitation for alarm rationalization, promoting awareness and application of ISA 18.2 and associated Chevron Engineering Standards (CES), and utilizing alarm management software tools when applicable.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Chevron OT personnel, CREG process design teams, and the Chevron Technology Center (CTC), to ensure process control systems align with business objectives and operational needs.
  • Represent CREG and participate actively in the Chevron Process Control Business Improvement Network (BIN) to contribute to and stay updated with best practices and industry standards.
  • Apply applicable Chevron Engineering Standards (CES) to all relevant aspects of process control engineering and operations.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably in Chemical or Control Systems Engineering.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in process control engineering within the oil & gas or petrochemical industry. Biodiesel and Renewable Industry a plus.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in process control engineering within the oil & gas or petrochemical industry. Biodiesel and Renewable Industry a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in process control optimization and understanding of fundamentals in Advanced Regulatory Control (ARC) Techniques
  • Experience in OT Cybersecurity and Information Risk Management.
  • Knowledge of ISA 62443, and NIST 800-53 standards.
  • Proficiency in AVEVA PI Software, with experience in configuration, maintaining and updating system tags and operational data.
  • Knowledge of Alarm Management and ISA 18.2 standards and familiarity with real-time Alarm Management software tools.
  • Familiarity with Emerson DeltaV DCS, Yokogawa DCS, or Rockwell Allan Bradley PLCs and PlantPax libraries.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
