The Site Reliability Engineer is responsible for the integrity and technical consistency of IT products and solutions. The role of an SRE is to align SRE framework with DevOps and agile, facilitate SRE technical assessments, coach agile teams on SRE maturity, lead SRE implementation efforts, and accelerate SRE adoption.
SRE works with SRE Community of Practice (CoP) thought leaders to define SRE capabilities and best practices, integrates capability framework and builds cross-functional relationships, and aligns with agile chapter(s) & IT leadership (Digital Managers, Product Managers, Product Owners, System Architects, RTEs, Scrum Masters).
As the Site Reliability Engineer, you will:
Use broad full-stack knowledge and experience for proactive incident prevention by baseliningagainst expected service performance, process improvement from application of lessons learned, andutilization of data analytics to proactively identify problem areas and operational gaps.
Effectively and efficiently lead product line agile teams in troubleshooting and resolving systemproblems, including analysing application and critical system performance.
Serve as technical resource during a major incident management response and critical incidentssupporting multiple technologies.
Facilitate SRE technical assessments, identify gaps, and provide recommendations to product teamson SRE maturity journey plans based on Chevron’s SRE framework.
Find opportunities to avoid future issues by improving logging and creating automated resolutionsbased on triggers. Develop automation scripts for repetitive tasks to eliminate toil/operations supportactivities.
Requirements:
Experience
Mastery hands-on experience as an IT professional with Computer Science/ ManagementInformation Systems (MIS) degree or related field or equivalent experience.
Experience in many of the technology disciplines required for the full end-to-end serviceoperations stack: network administration and security (CISCO/Juniper), identity & accessmanagement (Active Directory, Azure AD, SAML, OpenID Federation, certificates and keys),cybersecurity, on-prem and cloud architecture, Windows and Linux OS, performance monitoring& management, troubleshooting (application and database), change management, APIintegration, and process automation.
Self-motivated SAFe Agilist/DevOps practitioner with knowledge of cloud technologies, automation, Ansible, PowerShell, KQL and Shell scripting.
Skills
Leverage knowledge and best practices of Site Reliability Engineering such as SLO, SLI, andSLA definitions, eliminating toil via automation, error budgets, emergency response (triage,postmortem, retrospective), demand forecast and capacity planning to inspire others in supporting Chevron’s Agile/DevOps transformation.
Knowledge of full stack infrastructure to troubleshoot incidents.
Communication and Teamwork - Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner, considerthe views and concerns of others, achieve objectives through teamwork, and deliver consistentlyon commitments.
Working knowledge of Agile methodologies and practices (e.g., SAFe PI Planning, valuestream mapping, and scrum ceremonies).
Ability to work independently with minimal guidance to achieve defined technical/businessobjectives. Excellent time management, organizational skills, crisis management and problem-solving skills are essential. Ability to grasp new technologies and translate into business value.
Preferred Qualification and Certifications
General knowledge in Oil & Gas/Energy Industry or related experience as understanding ofour business is expected.
