About the position:

The Design Drafting Team Lead supervises a team of Designers and Computer Aided Design (CAD) operators, who play a key role in supporting and delivering management of Chevron’s Refinery and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facility information, process safety information, design and drafting needs. In addition, this role will manage the technology ownership, and contractor design/drafting interfaces. This position will supervise a team supporting drafting and design work scopes for multi-discipline projects. This position will report to the Mechanical Design Engineering Lead at the Chevron ENGINE Center.

Key responsibilities:

  • The Chevron Design Drafting Team Lead is a supervisory role within the Designs Engineering team. It will serve as an ongoing resource/mentor to team members as well as manage individuals’ performance and development plans

  • The Team Lead will have oversight of a cross-discipline team of design drafters, designers and CAD Operators who will provide direct designs/drafting support for daily operations, turnaround events and projects

  • Responsible for seeking and leveraging technology to increase overall efficiency of work products and processes

  • Provide supervision, coaching, development guidance to the team to deliver on the Design Engineering Charter and Business Plan; flexibility in managing a group consisting of Chevron employees and contract employees

  • Prioritize work with input from operating facilities and allocates resources accordingly to meet expectations

  • Coordinate overflow work to outside engineering vendors as needed to meet commitments

  • Provide leadership in sharing information and resources across and within Manufacturing and Business Units. Acts as key point of communication and coordination with the operating facilities

  • Use understanding of Refining and LNG operations to select and deploy new technology, drafting and design tools

  • Own the updates to drawings as well as maintaining piping specifications, Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs), Unit Plot Plans, Electrical One Line Diagrams, and other Process Safety Information

Required qualification:

  • Diploma/bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (B.E./B.Tech.) from a deemed/recognized (AICTE) university

  • 5-10 years of designs drafting experience with leadership and direct report responsibility in a Refinery or LNG production facility

  • Strong technical design background with an understanding of all design disciplines (i.e., Chevron Engineering Standards, piping, electrical, instrumentation, civil/structural, etc.)

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, CAD Worx 3-D Modelling, Drawings Management Solutions, Smart Plant Instrumentation, Caesar II, and Laser Scanning
