about the position

Chevron ENGINE has an exciting opportunity for an Asset Retirement Lead to join the Projects & Engineering team. Reporting to the Manager, Project Design Engineering, this role will be based in Chevron’s office in Bengaluru.

Asset retirement lead is a working supervisory role within the Chevron ENGINE team and supports Chevron’s asset retirement planning. Oversees team responsible for delivering asset retirement scopes across data, environmental, decommissioning, and other scopes.

This role will also be responsible for asset retirement scopes, which may include environmental remediation, offshore or onshore decommissioning, digital, or portfolio optimization scopes across Asset Retirement’s global portfolio. This role may be responsible for overseeing contractor performance, developing and approving scopes of work, reviewing and approving contractor execution plans evaluating portfolio level options and decision-making, and ensuring alignment with project timelines and regulatory requirements. The role may also serves as the primary point of contact for external partners and internal stakeholders, facilitating clear communication and resolving issues that may impact project or portfolio outcomes. Additionally, the role collaborates with data and reporting technologists to ensure accurate tracking of site metrics and deliverables, enabling informed decision-making and continuous improvement. 

Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, and work hours are aligned to business needs. Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Friday. These may evolve based on operational or business requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervisory responsibilities: Supervise, coach, mentor, and develop asset retirement ENGINE team members providing guidance on workflow delivery, standardization, simplification and automation. Set and monitor benchmarking targets that improve workflow  delivery and Competitive Performance. Sets clear expectations, and supports creation and management of individuals’ performance and development plans. Expected to align and inspire the team on asset retirement core value measures and KPIs. Partner with customers and stakeholders to prioritize the team’s workload. Ensure the team is appropriately resourced to meet the customer's needs and business plan commitments
  • Contractor Oversight: Oversee contractor performance, ensuring fieldwork is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory and internal standards. Verify work quality, adherence to timelines, proper documentation, reporting and closeout of all aspects of the project.  
  • Asset Retirement Site Assessment & Management: Lead environmental or decommissioning initiatives at Asset Retirement sites, focusing on workflows such as site assessments, remediation activities, decommissioning management, and continuous improvement of asset retirement project outcomes
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the primary point of contact for external partners (regulators, contractors, consultants) and internal stakeholders (site teams, leadership), facilitating clear communication and timely resolution of issues. 
  • Project Controls & Scheduling: Develop and manage project schedules for asset retirement activities, coordinate with contractors and internal teams, and maintain alignment with project milestones. Assess schedule impacts of scope changes and update plans accordingly. Manage project costs including review and approval of initial cost estimates as well as ongoing project invoices.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all site activities comply with applicable regulations, company policies, and best practices. Support audits, reporting, and incident investigations as needed. 
  • Data & Reporting Collaboration: Work closely with data and reporting technologists to ensure accurate tracking of site metrics, remediation progress, reporting (external & internal) and closeout deliverables. Support the development and/or improvement of dashboards and reporting tools for real-time insights and performance monitoring. 
  • Continuous Improvement: Collect and utilize lessons learned and site data to drive improvements in environmental management practices, reporting workflows, and project execution.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in asset retirement-related roles, such as remediation project management, offshore decommissioning, operations engineering, or portfolio management, preferably within the oil & gas or industrial sector.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of asset retirement decommissioning, environmental, and general asset retirement regulations, remediation or decommissioning technologies, and project controls. Experience with data management and reporting systems is highly desirable.
  • Leadership skills: Excellent ability to communicate and lead a team to deliver above expectations. Ability to understand the asset retirement fundamentals of the business to align and inspire the new team around the key performance indicators. Proven track record of leading a team to deliver results aligned with organizational strategic priorities.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Demonstrated ability to work effectively across teams and with diverse stakeholders. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or Business Administration (MBA)
  • Prior supervisory experience managing technical individuals across broad scopes both geographically and technically
  • Demonstrated experience in leading remediation projects.
  • Fluency in US Federal and State environmental codes and regulations.
  • Familiarity with digital tools for both project management and environmental data tracking and reporting.
  • Working knowledge of contractor safety management and operational excellence principles.

Selection Criteria

  • Technical Skills: Ability to independently manage environmental remediation and/or decommissioning projects and drive project outcomes through management of multiple contractors. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Teamwork & Communication: Ability to collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Delivering Results: Ability to think outside the box regarding remediation and/or decommissioning solutions and alternatives to deliver project outcomes at lower costs. Demonstrated ability to challenge status quo and willingness to drive contractor workforce
  • Asset Retirement Work Experience: Demonstrated ability working in one or more fields of asset retirement work including (but not limited to) offshore decommissioning, onshore decommissioning, onshore remediation and rehabilitation, portfolio management, environmental risk & claims, or water treatment operations engineering experience.
