About the position

Chevron ENGINE has an exciting opportunity for a Facilities Engineer – Mechanical to join the projects & engineering team. Reporting to the Facilities Engineer – Mechanical  Lead, this role will be based in Chevron’s office in Bengaluru.

Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, and work hours are aligned to business needs. Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Friday. These may evolve based on operational or business requirements.

Key responsibilities

The Mechanical Facilities Engineer is responsible for providing mechanical design engineering and associated technical support for Chevron’s Refining, Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) and Specialty Operations assets. This role will be responsible for providing support for field engineering, engineering work package development and other facility engineering related activities. The role is part of the Design Engineering Team at the Chevron ENGINE Center.

• Support day-to-day operations by providing strategic engineering support for the operating assets; this includes design changes, project scopes, long-term maintenance support, and technical input into long-term process or reliability-related issues.
• Perform Management of Change for design packages and associated changes.
• Provide support for quality inspections, specification checks on new equipment and associated piping.
• Provide technical support for planned mechanical equipment and piping scopes occurring on site during routine, controlled maintenance or turnarounds.
• Develop engineering work packages for brownfield projects, maintenance activities and turnarounds.
• Participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHAs), design reviews and coordinate multi discipline inputs.
• Support mechanical equipment fitness for service assessments in accordance with API codes and standards, as well as provide support for Root Cause Analysis Investigations and other equipment-related incidents.
• Identify mechanical equipment risks and deliver solutions to enable safe operation of the plant.
• Leverage expertise and knowledge of piping system design codes and standards, pressure vessel design, leak seal methods, pipe stress analysis, damage mechanisms, process equipment and piping material selection and sizing, equipment procurement, field construction and repair practices, process safety information and management of change work processes.

To be considered for this role, applicants should have:

• Minimum of 3 years of site-based facility experience in a brownfield environment.
• Mechanical Engineering degree from a recognized (AICTE) university.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience as a mechanical and static equipment engineer directly supporting operations at a complex refinery, LNG facility, or similar petrochemical environment.

• Sound knowledge and experience with piping, pressure vessels, valves, PSVs, heat exchanger etc., including technical troubleshooting, condition monitoring and implementation of changes to these equipment types.

Demonstrated Job Knowledge and Proficiency:
• Engineering knowledge of design standards and practices.
• Experience with industry standards such as API, ASME, ASTM, NBIC.
• Experience in complex processing facilities is strongly preferred.
• Experience with Corporate Engineering Standards.

Proven ability to:
• Understand and analyze technical issues in a complex processing facility.
• Read and understand engineering manuals and codes.
• Perform engineering calculations including but not limited to hydraulics calculations, pipe required thickness and stress calculations and pressure vessel design and required thickness calculations.
• Interpret P&ID’s, plot plans, piping, equipment and structural drawings.
• Manage multiple initiatives and tasks simultaneously.
• Specify, purchase, support installation and commissioning, and troubleshoot mechanical equipment.

Communication:
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Capable of effectively and proactively informing and engaging with customers and creating detailed engineering documents.
• Listen and properly regard input from all team members and stakeholders.
• Communicate technical ideas to a wide range of stakeholders and audiences.
• Facilitate meetings.

Teamwork:
• Interface effectively with Operators, Mechanics, Vendors, Contractors, Management and other parties to meet business objectives.
• Foster cooperation and collaboration among individuals in a work group.
• Help teams resolve conflicts constructively.
• Work with customers to set priorities and execute work with minimal direct supervision
• Collaboratively work with multiple Refinery organizations (Health Safety and Environment, Engineering, Operations and Maintenance) to gain support and alignment.
• Strong team player (i.e. capable of building strong, productive and mutually beneficial working relationships with all stakeholders).
