About the position:

The Fire Protection Engineer is part of the Project Designs Engineering team within the Chevron ENGINE Center.  This role provides fire protection expert consultation and services to the operating asset and capital projects across Chevron with the objective of decreasing the risk of process related incidents across the Enterprise. Key services include capital project support, facility audits, incident investigation, hazards analyses and training.

Key responsibilities:

  • Performing active and passive fire protection system design engineering, hydraulic calculations and transient analysis, fire and gas 3D mapping, fire and gas instrumentation, fire system testing 

  • Setup and review modeling software used by the fire protection team such as Pipenet, Inside Numerics, and Phastor

  • Maintaining related company specifications and participating in industrial code development.

  • Participate as SME in Fire Hazard Analyses.  

  • Base-business support includes providing site fire protection reviews.  

  • It is anticipated that domestic or international travel will be required.

  • Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering discipline (mechanical, chemical, etc.) (B.E./B.Tech.) from a deemed/recognized (AICTE) university

  • Knowledge and experience in Process Engineering in complex process facilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of experience in an engineering execution or consultant role within offshore, complex or LNG facilities.

  • Familiarity with modeling software such as Pipenet, Inside Numerics, and Phastor. 

  • Awareness of Process Safety Management concepts and principles such as Process Hazard Analysis and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA).

  • Experience in Operation support engineering or process design scopes of work

  • Knowledge of chemical engineering fundamentals of mass transfer/distillation, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, process control and kinetics; especially as it relates to overpressure protection (flare and relief)

Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, supporting business requirements across the world. Accordingly, the work hours for employees will be aligned to support business requirements. The standard work week will be Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm or 1:30pm to 10:30pm.
