About the position
Chevron ENGINE has an exciting opportunity for a Human Factors Engineer to join the Project Design Engineering team. Reporting to the Manager Project design Engineering, this role will be based in Chevron’s office in Bengaluru.
The Human Factors Engineer supports the Projects Design Engineering team within the Chevron ENGINE Center, partnering with facilities engineers and other disciplines to ensure designs meet Safety in Design (SID) requirements and quality expectations across Chevron’s oil and gas facilities. The role guides Pre-FEED execution and delivery of Digital Design Packages in a collaborative environment.
Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, and work hours are aligned to business needs. Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Friday. These may evolve based on operational or business requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Applies Safety in Design & Human Factors Engineering (HFE) in a design & execution environment for the enterprise.
- Develop & execute HFE implementation plans, including design studies to address health, safety, operability, reliability and maintainability.
- Develop and apply Company requirements and local regulations in a petrochemical environment.
- Undertake root cause analysis of HFE related issues.
- Develop workable solutions as they apply to HFE and Safety in Design problems.
- Resolve complex technical issues related to HFE and mentor others in doing so.
- Ensure that full consideration of personal safety and environmental factors are incorporated into facility designs.
- Lead assigned HFE scopes based on business needs, including:
- Managing Chevron Engineering Standards to align with industry standards and supplier specifications.
- Participate in 3D model design review activities, including oversight of engineering contractors as needed.
- Executing site based and remote Human Factors Engineering reviews of facilities that are in construction using established tools and procedures.
- Supporting the Facilities and Operations of the Future (FOF) program delivering digital solutions across the enterprise
- Interface with cross-functional technical development groups and FE teams; communicate effectively across organizational levels.
- It is anticipated that domestic and international travel, or in some cases, Temporary Domestic Assignments of up to 24 months at engineering contractor’s offices will be required.

To be considered for this role, applicants should have:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Human Factors/Ergonomics, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation/Controls, Process Controls, or Process) from a deemed/recognized (AICTE) university.
- Experience in one or more of the following phases: Pre-FEED, FEED, Detailed Engineering, Construction, Commissioning, Startup, and Operations.
- Strong knowledge of system interfaces, systems engineering, and project execution.
- Experience working on multi-disciplinary teams of engineers and CAD designers to deliver quality Engineering Design Packages/FEED packages while managing scope, cost, schedule, and risk.
- 5–10 years of experience in Human Factors Engineering for design engineering, execution or consultant role within offshore, complex LNG or power generation facilities.
- Operations and facility commissioning/startup experience.
- Project engineering and fabrication experience on larger capital projects within oil and gas.
