About the position:
The Integration Software Engineer (ISE) is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining scalable integration solutions, backend services, and web-based applications that support RMF business and engineering systems. This role focuses on building secure, reliable, and maintainable software solutions using .NET Core / C#, Azure PaaS, modern UI frameworks such as Angular or Blazor, and sound engineering practices including design patterns, SOLID principles, and Agile delivery methods.
The position works closely with product owners, architects, data engineers, front-end developers, and domain specialists to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions. The role contributes across the software development lifecycle, from design through deployment and support, while ensuring alignment with enterprise standards, tooling, security, and operational excellence practices. The role also leverages Generative AI (GenAI)-enabled engineering practices to improve development efficiency, code quality, and delivery effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities:
Software Engineering & Integration Development
Design, develop, test, and support scalable backend services, APIs, and integration components in a production environment.
Build and maintain applications using C#, .NET Core / .NET, and modern web development frameworks such as Angular or Blazor.
Develop reusable, maintainable, and extensible software solutions by applying SOLID principles, object-oriented design, and established design patterns.
Implement integration solutions across enterprise applications, services, and platforms while ensuring reliability, scalability, and security.
Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and service interfaces, including proper documentation using OpenAPI / Swagger.
Apply sound software engineering practices such as exception handling, validation, logging, versioning, dependency management, and structured debugging.
Write clean, readable, and testable code following modern engineering standards and best practices.
Create and maintain unit and integration tests to improve code quality, prevent regressions, and support maintainability.
Contribute to frontend integration and UI development activities where needed using Angular or Blazor.
Cloud & Azure PaaS Development Engineering
Develop and operate applications within an enterprise Microsoft Azure cloud environment.
Build solutions using Azure PaaS services such as Azure App Services, Azure Functions, Azure Storage, Azure Service Bus, Azure Redis, and other relevant cloud-native services.
Support deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting of applications in cloud-hosted environments.
Design solutions for performance, availability, scalability, and maintainability in alignment with enterprise cloud standards.
Work with structured and unstructured data storage solutions including SQL databases, document databases, and storage accounts.
Demonstrate familiarity with distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and containerization concepts.
Agile Delivery & Collaboration
Work within Agile teams to deliver features and enhancements iteratively with quality and predictability.
Participate in backlog refinement, sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
Collaborate effectively with product owners, architects, QA engineers, and cross-functional teams to clarify requirements and deliver business value.
Proactively identify risks, dependencies, and technical improvement opportunities during delivery execution.
Generative AI (GenAI) & Modern Engineering Practices
Use enterprise-approved Generative AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to assist with code generation, refactoring, documentation, test creation, and productivity improvement.
Apply human judgment to validate AI-assisted outputs against enterprise expectations for security, reliability, maintainability, and compliance.
Explore and responsibly adopt emerging engineering practices, including AI-assisted development workflows, within approved enterprise guardrails.
Demonstrate working knowledge of Python, GenAI concepts, and data engineering fundamentals to support modern solution development.
Enterprise Tools & Standards
Work within Chevron-built tools such as Orion, Azure DevOps Pipelines (formerly Pipeline Framework), ACME, NextPage, and Status.
Use commonly adopted tools including GHAZDO, DAST, GitHub Copilot (intermediate level), Visual Studio Code, and ServiceNow (SNOW).
Ensure solutions align with Chevron engineering standards including CDAS and cvxcontrols.
Differentiating & Desired Skills
Experience with Python frameworks and packages such as FastAPI, Pydantic, Pytest, Pandas, or Polars.
Basic knowledge of statistics as applied to engineering or analytical workflows.
Familiarity with common backend and enterprise application design patterns (e.g., repository, factory, strategy).
Required Skills / Qualifications
Strong hands-on experience in C#, .NET Core / .NET API development.
Strong understanding of software design patterns and SOLID principles.
Experience building cloud-native applications using Microsoft Azure PaaS services.
Hands-on experience with REST API development, backend services, and system integration.
Working knowledge of Angular or Blazor for frontend integration and UI development.
Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals including object-oriented programming, asynchronous programming, multithreading, debugging, source control, and testing.
Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills.
Secondary / Preferred Skills
Experience with Python for backend development, automation, or engineering workflows.
Understanding of Generative AI (GenAI) concepts and AI-assisted software engineering practices.
Familiarity with data engineering concepts, including data pipelines, transformation, and structured/unstructured data handling.
Exposure to frameworks and packages such as FastAPI, Pydantic, Pytest, Pandas, or Polars is preferred.
Familiarity with integration and backend design patterns such as repository, factory, strategy, and mediator patterns.
Awareness of application observability, monitoring, and cloud performance optimization practices.
