About the position

Chevron ENGINE has an exciting opportunity for a Shipping Manager to join the shipping team. This is a senior leadership role, reporting to the Director, Facilities Engineering & Projects, based in Chevron’s ENGINE facility office in Bengaluru.

The Marine capability within Chevron ENGINE in Bengaluru is a new, integrated function established to support Chevron’s global shipping organization by leveraging India-based talent. It combines marine engineering, technical assurance, voyage operations, commercial support, and reliability expertise with a state-of-the-art marine training centre with simulator capability also being commissioned. This setup allows ENGINE to act as an onshore extension of Chevrons global shipping capability, providing technical support and building workforce capability for its global fleet.

Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, and work hours are aligned to business needs. Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Friday. These may evolve based on operational or business requirements.

Key responsibilities

This is a senior leadership role that will lead and develop Chevron ENGINE’s shipping capability as a high-performing, scalable extension of Chevron shipping company, with overall accountability for organizational effectiveness, capability development, operational excellence, workforce growth, and delivery performance. The role provides strategic direction and governance across all shipping activities within ENGINE and ensures alignment with Chevron shipping’s global priorities and standards.

To be considered for this role, applicants should have:

ENGINE Shipping organization leadership & corporate liaison

  • Lead the ENGINE shipping organization, including direct and indirect resources, with single-point accountability for delivery and full employee administrative requirements, including performance management, coaching, mentoring, and development of marine employees.

  • Establish clear governance, decision-making frameworks, and performance expectations.

  • Serve as the primary interface with Chevron shipping company, aligning on:

    • Priorities and demand

    • Standards and policies

    • Operating model and ways of working

  • Ensure integration of global shipping workflows into ENGINE delivery.

  • Drive alignment with enterprise strategy, cost efficiency, and operational excellence.

Capability building, workforce development & organizational integration

  • Partner with functional supervisors in the sending business/function to align role requirements, work quality, and priorities.

  • Lead workforce planning, recruitment, and onboarding strategies and plans

  • Coordinate transition, onboarding, training, and parallel-run activities for new resources, including training and travel budget setting and tracking.

  • Enable effective integration, mentoring, and deployment aligned to operational needs

  • Build sustainable in-country capability, supporting long-term growth, scalability, and efficiency.

Operational excellence, governance & high performance

  • Establish robust governance and reporting frameworks.

  • Partner with functional supervisors in the sending business/function to align on performance goals, metrics, and objectives.

  • Drive consistent delivery performance, role clarity, and accountability across teams.

  • Improve efficiency, cost discipline, and decision clarity in shipping operations.

  • Monitor and deliver against key success metrics, including:

    • Capability ramp-up and independent leadership progression

    • Increased proportion of locally executed shipping activities.

    • Cost efficiency improvements versus traditional models.

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality, safety, and reliability.

Required qualifications:

Experience & capability

  • Extensive and broad experience across shipping, marine operations, and/or maritime training; with a target of more than 10 years in Chief Engineer / Master Engineer role.

  • Proven leadership in complex, multi-stakeholder, multi-time-zone organizations.

  • Track record in building capability and scaling operations

  • Strong understanding of training governance, compliance, and accreditation frameworks
