About the position

Chevron ENGINE has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Writing Lead to join the Engineering Services team. Reporting to the Information Management Team Lead, this role will be based in Chevron’s office in Bengaluru.

The Technical Writing Lead is part of the Engineering Services team within Chevron’s ENGINE center.  This role provides day-to-day leadership for a team of Technical Writers responsible for developing and maintaining critical operating documentation for oil and gas facilities. This team ensures procedures, work instructions, manuals, and related technical controls are accurate, current, and usable for the intended audience, while meeting applicable company standards, regulatory requirements, and Operational Excellence expectations. The Technical Writing Lead partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and HSE subject matter experts to translate complex technical information into clear, consistent documentation and to ensure changes from risk reviews and management-of-change activities are captured, reviewed, and implemented.

Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, and work hours are aligned to business needs. Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Friday. These may evolve based on operational or business requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Technical Writers; set clear expectations for quality, timeliness, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Plan, prioritize, and assign work across competing requests; manage workload, bottlenecks, and delivery commitments.
  • Oversee development, revision, and maintenance of operating procedures, work instructions, operating manuals, process/equipment manuals, and other operational documentation (e.g., HSE and process safety content as applicable).
  • Facilitate effective collaboration with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and HSE SMEs to gather inputs, validate technical accuracy, and confirm end-user usability.
  • Ensure documentation is fit-for-purpose for the intended audience (clarity, structure, readability, and correct level of detail), including application of Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles where required.
  • Ensure changes from management-of-change activities and risk reviews (e.g., hazard reviews) are appropriately captured, assessed for documentation impact, and incorporated into affected documents.
  • Establish and enforce documentation standards (templates, style guidance, controlled terminology), including consistent formatting, versioning, and approval workflows.
  • Maintain document control discipline: revision history, traceability, approvals, distribution, and archival in the designated document management system.
  • Monitor and report performance metrics (e.g., validation/periodic review timeliness, cycle time, backlog); identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve document quality.
  • Provide training and guidance to Technical Writers and stakeholders on documentation expectations, workflows, and tool usage.
  • Support audits and reviews by producing required documentation evidence and driving closure of documentation-related findings/actions.
