Chevron is accepting online applications for the position through 08/26/2025 at 11:59 p.m. (GMT - 3).
The I&E Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Projects Engineer will report to the FE Green Field Projects Manager in Argentina and will be responsible for leading engineering coordination and project execution across Instrumentation and Control disciplines for new unconventional surface facilities and brownfield upgrades.
The role includes technical review of basic and detailed engineering deliverables from third-party Engineering Contractors, selection and specification of I&C and SCADA Control systems and vendors, oversight of project execution including construction contract definition, and leadership of construction-phase activities. Key interfaces include Green Field Development, Brownfield Plant Improvements, and Automation & Control teams.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
Lead development and review of instrumentation layouts, control system architectures, cable schedules, logic diagrams, and control narratives for upstream facilities.
Ensure effective integration of instrumentation with automation systems including DCS, SCADA, PLC platforms, and telecommunications infrastructure.
Validate design of SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems), control loops, and alarm management strategies in compliance with industry best practices and Chevron standards.
Perform technical analysis and approval of field instrumentation specifications (pressure, temperature, flow, level), smart transmitters, and control valves.
Provide input into system architecture and network topology for control systems, ensuring cybersecurity and functional integrity.
Develop and endorse engineering standards and Basis of Design (BOD) documents aligned with Chevron and international I&C codes (e.g., ISA, IEC, API).
Manage cross-discipline interface during FEED and detailed design phases—particularly with Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Automation engineering.
Lead the execution of small- and medium-scale instrumentation and electrical projects.
Prepare descriptive reports and scope definitions for bidding documents.
Manage procurement of materials and equipment. Conduct field visits to monitor project progress and ensure compliance. Collaborate with various departments within the company, primarily Operations and Construction.
Provide technical support to Operations on matters related to Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E).
Ensure the delivery of high-quality and complete project documentation.
Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), loop checks, and commissioning strategies with a focus on reliable I&C system handover.
Maintain I&C documentation including data sheets, instrument index, control panel drawings, and I/O lists.
Identify and resolve engineering deviations; contribute to Management of Change (MOC) processes.
Engage with regulatory and land teams for permitting support related to instrumentation installations and facility siting.
Required Qualifications
We are looking for a highly qualified professional with the following background:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electronics, or Electrical Engineering.
Experience: At least 10 years of engineering experience in Instrumentation, Control Systems, and Automation Design within upstream Oil & Gas surface facility environments.
Communication: Fluent in English (written and oral), with excellent communication skills for leading technical discussions and coordinating across engineering teams, contractors, and stakeholders.
Leadership: Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary engineering packages, coordinate internal teams, and manage vendors for I&C systems.
Technical Expertise:
Strong knowledge of control systems engineering, including loop design, control strategies, HMI configurations, and interface protocols.
Proficiency in control valve sizing software, flow measurement techniques across various standards, database management, and control system configuration.
Experience with hazardous area classifications, smart instrumentation, and advanced diagnostics.
Standards & Compliance: Familiarity with international standards and best practices governing instrumentation and automation systems (e.g., ISA, IEC, API).
Documentation & Delivery: Demonstrated ability to deliver complete and high-quality design packages.
Preferred Qualifications:
Project Management or Engineering Management certifications.
Track record of successful I&C leadership in collaboration with engineering contractors or Oil & Gas Operators.
Experience in Lean Construction practices and integration of digital twin platforms in design and commissioning.
Exposition on Electricity and Power Facilities engineering and projects management on O&G Industry.
Special Considerations:
Based in Buenos Aires at Chevron’s CEL (Centro Empresarial Libertador) office.
Frequent travel to El Trapial Field is required for construction inspections, commissioning, startup support, and integration with operating teams.

Relocation is not offered for this role. Only local candidates will be considered.
