IT Application Engineer – Physical Security Systems

This IT Application Engineer will be responsible for the deployment, upgrade, and maintenance of enterprise-level Physical Security Applications, including Access Control, Visitor Management, Badge Management, and Alarm Monitoring platforms. This role ensures system integrity, scalability, and compliance with global security standards while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver secure and reliable solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Deploy and upgrade Lenel OnGuard and related security applications across global facilities.
• Configure and maintain system architecture, including servers, databases, and integrations with third-party systems.
• Document technical procedures, upgrade paths, and architectural diagrams for future reference.
• Collaborate with security operations, IT infrastructure, and vendors to align deployments with
organizational standards.
• Perform system health checks, troubleshoot application issues, and ensure high availability.
• Recommend and implement enhancements, process improvements, and system optimizations to strengthen OnGuard functionality and support future deployments
Technical Skills:
Lenel OnGuard Expertise:
- Deep understanding of OnGuard architecture, including Communication Server, Application Server, SQL Database, and OpenAccess API.
- Experience with Version 8.2, including enhanced web modules, OpenAccess RESTful API, and Cloud readiness features.
- Define custom alarm priorities, escalation paths, and event-to-action rules (e.g., trigger CCTV on forced door).
- Configure graphical maps for real-time alarm visualization.
- Experience with configuring custom reports, card formats, badge types, permission groups, cardholder options, segments, access panels, access level groups, areas, intrusion panels, etc.
Database Management:
- Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server for backup, restore, and query optimization.
- Ability to optimize Microsoft SQL Server for performance and disaster recovery using mirroring or AlwaysOn Availability Groups.
Operating Systems:
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server environments, IIS configuration, and Active Directory integration.
Networking:
- Familiarity with TCP/IP, VLANs, and firewall rules for secure application communication.
- Enforce TLS 1.2 or higher for all communications.
Integration Skills:
- Implement DataConduIT and/or OpenAccess API integrations for real-time data exchange with HR and identity systems.
- Experience integrating badge printers, biometric devices, and alarm panels with OnGuard.
Leadership & Soft Skills:
- Ability to lead global deployment projects, manage timelines, and coordinate stakeholders.
- Skilled at translating technical details into business-friendly language for leadership.
- Strong analytical skills for diagnosing complex system issues under pressure.
- Work effectively with security teams, IT, and vendors across multiple time zones.
- Drive innovation by recommending system enhancements and process optimizations.
Other Qualifications:
- Lenel Certified Professional (LCP) or Lenel Certified Expert (LCE).
- Experience with hosting security solutions in a Cloud Hosting environment (i.e. Azure) while still maintaining expectations for performance, latency, and availability.
- Similar experience with Genetec Security Center & Genetec Video Management systems
