Manufacturing Operations is accepting online applications for the position of Experienced Laboratory Technician (internally referred to as a Laboratory Inspector) located in El Segundo, California through 2/24/2026 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.  

The successful candidate(s) will complete an accelerated Laboratory Inspector training program within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Performs a wide variety of tests in a production environment on refinery process samples and finished products per established procedures. Test methods vary from simple methods such as density/gravity, color, and viscosity to more complex methods such as knock (octane) testing, automatic distillation and titration, gas chromatography, ICP metals, etc.

  • Checks test results against specifications. Utilizes standard Quality Control / Quality Assurance processes to ensure accuracy and precision of results.

  • Validates data, performs calculations, and reports test results.

  • Checks and calibrates equipment, reviews test methods, and performs preventive or corrective maintenance.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least four years of work experience as a laboratory technician or chemist in a laboratory specializing in petroleum testing relevant to refinery operations.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Valid Driver’s license

  • Able to work rotating shifts, including weekends, nights, holidays, overtime, and short notice shift coverage as needed.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).

  • This job is a Safety Sensitive Position and is subject to Random Drug/Alcohol testing in addition to pre-employment background screenings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Work experience: Laboratory testing, Refinery/Chemical Plant Process Operations, Military fueling operations.

  • Experience using a Laboratory Information Management System

  • College degree (BA, or BS) in Natural Science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics) OR Technology (Engineering, Computer Science, Manufacturing), including college chemistry AND/OR 2 years military experience.

  • Mechanical aptitude

  • Experience with formal safety processes

  • Effective communication skills, teamwork skills, problem solving ability.

Relocation Options:

Relocation will not be considered.

International Considerations:

Expatriate assignments will not be considered.

  • The anticipated hourly wage for this position is $48.31*
