The Rotating Equipment Engineer is responsible for identifying, managing, and mitigating asset reliability and integrity risks associated with fixed and rotating equipment that could impact safe and reliable plant operations. This role serves as a technical authority for rotating equipment systems and provides engineering leadership across operations, maintenance, turnarounds, and capital projects, while ensuring compliance with applicable standards, PSM requirements, and reliability programs.

Rotating Equipment Engineering & Standards Stewardship

  • Serve as technical authority for rotating and fixed equipment, including pumps, compressors, seal support systems, motors, generators, and auxiliary systems.

  • Provide rotating equipment specification, selection, design, and engineering support for base business, turnarounds, and capital projects.

  • Review, control, and approve rotating equipment modifications, upgrades, and additions.

  • Maintain and steward applicable Plant, Corporate, and industry equipment standards; review and disposition deviations to standards as required.

  • Stay current with industry best practices, applicable codes/standards, and regulatory requirements.

Reliability Engineering & Asset Integrity

  • Lead machinery reliability programs for assigned process units, including machinery bad‑actor management and long‑term reliability strategy development.

  • Identify and implement reliability, integrity, economic, carbon reduction, and safety improvements.

  • Apply reliability methodologies (RCFA, FMEA/FMECA, RCM, RAM) to eliminate recurring failures and equipment reliability threats.

  • Use data‑driven insights from condition monitoring and performance tools to prioritize and justify reliability improvements.

Troubleshooting, Condition Monitoring & Diagnostics

  • Provide technical support during unplanned and emergency rotating equipment failures, including off‑shift callouts as required.

  • Lead complex troubleshooting efforts focused on safe equipment restoration and prevention of recurrence.

  • Perform machinery condition monitoring, diagnostics, performance analysis, and failure investigations using advanced monitoring systems.

  • Track, review, and ensure quality of offsite shop repairs and returned equipment.

Projects, Turnarounds & Operational Support

  • Support turnarounds and capital projects from scope development through commissioning and PSSR participation.

  • Develop or revise PMs, job plans, repair checklists, and maintenance or operating procedures.

  • Partner closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to optimize equipment performance and ensure safe, reliable operation.

  • Provide technical oversight for medium‑scope projects; work has Business Unit–level impact.

Leadership, Communication & Operational Excellence

  • Influence and lead cross‑functional teams through strong technical credibility and collaboration.

  • Communicate complex technical information effectively to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

  • Mentor and coach engineers and technicians while supporting development of a strong “One Team” culture.

  • Demonstrate Operational Excellence (OE) behaviors aligned with the Chevron Way, including strong safety leadership and application of Human and Organizational Performance principles.

  • This role is not eligible for expatriate assignment.Global Offshore Payroll applicants must be able to use current US work authorization or otherwise able to obtain work authorization within 4 months of initiation of immigration activities.   • This position is relocation eligible in accordance with Company policy.

  • Position is site‑based and supports turnaround and unplanned event response as required.

  • Eligible to earn compensatory time in accordance with site policy during exceptional work periods.
