Technology will play a crucial role in unlocking ever cleaner and more affordable sources of energy.  This role will partner with Chevron’s Downstream, Midstream, and Chemicals business, which encompasses a globally integrated network including manufacturing, marketing, lubricants, chemicals, additives, shipping, pipelines, power, and trading operations. The organization aims to enhance agility and drive enterprise-wide value. Downstream operations focus on refining and marketing premium fuels and lubricants. Midstream activities manage the transportation and logistics of crude oil, refined products, and natural gas across a vast pipeline network. The Chemicals segment, including Chevron Phillips Chemical, develops and markets high-quality petrochemicals and performance additives. This integrated model is designed to optimize the full value chain—from crude sourcing to customer delivery—while leveraging centralized support teams and digital tools to improve capital efficiency and operational performance.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • The IT Architect for DM&C Operations will articulate business landscape (app, data, workflow, etc.) and collaborate with digital platforms.
  • Support framing new opportunities and help digital platform teams understand the business.
  • Ensure local solutions align to enterprise architecture standards.
  • Architect technical solutions to challenging issues within Downstream, Midstream & Chemical Operational Facilities Process Control Networks, protecting critical assets that enable safe and reliable operations, increased asset availability, and integrating value chains at competitive costs with capital efficiency.
  • Documentation Oversight: Ensure that as-built and target architecture documentation is accurately captured and maintained.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Develop and maintain architectural blueprints, solution designs, and technical documentation.
  • Lead the integration of various systems and applications, ensuring seamless data flow and interoperability.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to development teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Mentor and guide junior architects and engineers. Conduct regular reviews and audits of existing solutions to identify areas for improvement.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure our solutions remain cutting-edge.
  • Develop and present proof of concepts to demonstrate the feasibility of proposed solutions.
  • Monitor and manage the costs associated with cloud services and solutions.
  • Develop and implement disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering, or closely related field.
  • Understanding of network architectures and typologies used in industrial control system networks. Purdue model levels, Zones and Conduits, ISA 62443, control system vendor typologies. A skilled professional should be able to leverage knowledge from previous steps to review Network drawings for a project and provide feedback and ideas to improve network traffic flow to make it as compliant as possible, this would be a screening step before project goes for governance review. A skilled professional should be capable of deploying additional security devices, such as data diodes and network tap devices, for traffic mirroring and monitoring.
  • Familiar with Industrial Automation & Control Systems (IACS) components such as PLCs, SCADA, DCS, and HMI, as well as knowledge of Process Automation applications, including alarm management, data historians, advanced process control capabilities, and machinery monitoring.  Key aspects of this skill include the ability to understand the function of these systems, the impact of a cyber compromise, as well as knowledge of the communication protocols used by these systems, to be able to recommend security capabilities and secure architectures to secure these IACS systems
  • Ability to apply general knowledge of PCN, SCADA, and OT technologies and architecture to determine the most appropriate risk mitigation strategies.   Key aspects of this skill include: The application of knowledge related to a Process Control Network (PCN) environment, including process automation systems, safety instrumented systems, programmable logic controllers, process control network implementation and segmentation to identify potential vulnerabilities and formulate risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ability to interpret OT architectures, dataflows, and secure implementation of technologies and partner with Architects across the enterprise to incorporate secure by design elements into approved OT reference architectures. Understanding of the relationships between OT system's functional description, architecture, system dependencies, the use cases, impact of compromise, and intended stakeholders for the system.   Key aspects of the skills include the demonstrated ability to provide recommendations on how Industrial Automation & Control Systems (IACS) components should be securely interconnected in the traditional Purdue Enterprise Reference Architecture (PERA), and ability to apply a Zones and Conduit approach to OT architecture design.
  • 5+ years of prior experience as a solution architect, preferably in the oil and gas industry or 5+ years of prior experience as a software engineer or similar role.
  • Skilled in implementing various architecture styles, design patterns and best practices for software development.
  • Skilled in evaluating technology and product options, and modern trade-off analysis for various architecture and design choices.
  • Skilled in ability to design and implement security best practices and compliance requirements in the oil and gas industry.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to work with a team toward a common goal, staying aligned with agreed strategies, priorities and processes to deliver results. Adapts to changing needs and priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively with team members and stakeholders across Chevron’s Downstream, Midstream and Chemical businesses across the globe.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively with peers, management, and stakeholders across disciplines and geographies. Proven ability to remain focused upon agreed deadlines and deliverables.
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate work activities with across multiple teams and be successful at meeting deadlines and keeping projects on time. Work coordination in this space will often require managing tasks that span Chevron organizational groups, end users and vendors resources. Takes ownership of issues and initiatives and works to resolution.
