The Land Ownership Representative plays a critical role in ensuring that Chevron realizes the full value of its land position while upholding our values of trust and integrity by adhering to the agreements, obligations, statutes, and regulations applicable to our land rights. This is accomplished by utilizing land, revenue, and other relevant systems to analyze and interpret contracts, title, transfer documents, well plats, regulatory filings, valuation methodologies, marketing arrangements, and federal and state regulations and then timely and accurately create producing property Ventures and Divisions of Interest in SAP.  This position also plays an integral role in ensuring 3rd party Operators are crediting Chevron with the accurate ownership interest in our NOJV assets and Royalty Portfolio.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Create division of interest (DOI) decks reflecting record title ownership of producing properties in assigned geographic area through detailed analysis of title opinions, broker reports, leases, assignments, deeds, probate, farmout agreements, operating agreements, unit agreements, well plats, and other legal documents.
  • Administration of Chevron’s (and others’) divisions of ownership for revenues, royalties, rents, taxes and joint interest billings in Land and Revenue Systems.
  • Conduct thorough title research, analyzing ownership, leasehold interest, and potential curative issues in new and existing wells. Clearly communicate title defects to owners and articulate necessary title curative documentation needed to rectify title defects.
  • Maintain and update record title transfers in our systems of record and ensure source documentation is captured and stored in company document management system.
  • Execute objectives consistent with Land function and with stakeholder strategies and business requirements. Leverage knowledge in Land data and processes to implement solutions for changing business needs and contribute to cross-functional and high impact BU and HQ initiatives.
  • Full understanding of federal, Indian, state and private lease terms, conditions and obligations compliance. This involves analysis of provisions, tracking minimum royalty payments, rentals, processing and issuing shut-in payments among other responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of federal, tribal and state statutes that govern oil and gas exploration, production, royalty distribution and reporting.
  • Provide technical and strategic support and recommendations to the legal team on complex royalty interest disputes.
  • Serve as liaison between royalty owners, external business counterparts and internal business units, finance and revenue to coordinate inquiries resolution.
  • Support the delivery of systems and process improvements, implement continuous improvement plans and enhancement to current processes.
  • Provide technical and strategic support of company acquisition and divestiture activities.
  • Perform research to resolve and reduce the number of accounts and amount of funds held in suspense.
  • Resolve internal and external inquiries and interest disputes; research and verify audit controls and claims; provide litigation support; influence valuation strategies. Possess strong relationship building capabilities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong constructive working relationships
  • High level of organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to handle many high-priority tasks simultaneously
  • Able to work effectively with multiple stakeholders
  • At least five years of experience in Land Administration Activities (including but not limited to: New Well Setups, Title Opinion Reviews, Transfers/Assignments, Shut-In Payments, Post Production Cost Reviews, research and validation of Non-Operated interests)

Preferred qualifications/skills:

  • Knowledge of oil and gas statutes, case law and federal, Indian and state regulations
  • Experience analyzing Division Order Title Opinions and royalty provisions
  • Familiarity with royalty statues and related case law
  • Knowledge of Federal leases and minimum royalty lease payments
  • Understanding of ownership transfer documents and process
  • Ability to analyze, recommend and/or perform a variety of system, ownership and Land agreement review, maintenance, and update activities
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate to a wide variety of audiences in a clear and concise manner both orally and in writing
  • Bachelor’s degree in Energy Management, Petroleum Management or Business.
  • Familiarity with Land systems and other systems including, but not limited to SAP, QGIS, QLS, and ThoughtTrace

    Relocation Options:

    Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters.
