Chevron is accepting online applications for the position Solution Architect Optimization through August 22,2025 at 11:59 p.m. (Central Time).

At Chevron, the Solution Architect for optimization plays a critical leadership role in shaping the future of optimization applications. This role is responsible for defining and guiding the architecture of a diverse suite of optimization solutions—ranging from in-house applications using programming languages like C#, python and .NET to third-party tools integrated with internal systems like SAP and Azure. The architect will lead the modernization and standardization of these solutions, ensuring they are scalable, robust, and aligned with business needs across upstream, midstream, and downstream operations and generative AI-ready.

In addition to architectural responsibilities, this role will temporarily shepherd the development team—prioritizing work, supporting delivery, and mentoring software engineers. The architect will collaborate closely with developers, product owners, and business stakeholders. The architect must understand the commodity value chain from Upstream through Midstream to Downstream lifecycle to design effective, integrated systems and support their team.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Define and evolve a unified architectural strategy for Chevron’s optimization suite, including future solutions using Microsoft Azure services.
  • Lead the modernization of legacy optimization applications into scalable, cloud-native, and modular architectures.
  • Temporarily prioritize the work of the optimization team, ensuring alignment with business priorities and delivery timelines.
  • Develop and maintain architectural blueprints, solution designs, and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineers, UI/UX developers, data engineers, DevOps, and product owners to ensure architectural alignment across teams.
  • Establish and enforce standards for deployment, versioning, model governance, and integration patterns.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure our solutions remaincutting-edge.
  • Design reusable architectural components for value chain workflows and reporting.
  • Guide the integration of optimization models with enterprise and third-party systems (e.g. SAP, JDE, Data Lake, etc.).
  • Support long-term vision for real-time data integration using Microservices architecture pattern.
  • Monitor and manage the costs associated with cloud services and solutions.
  • Develop and implement disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity.
  • Lead architectural reviews and mentor junior architects and engineers.
  • Collaborate across other teams leading lower carbon solutions, integration with Upstream sources, Trading, Refinery mass balancing and scheduling to ensure alignment with business needs.
  • Ensure solutions are scalable, testable, maintainable, and aligned with business needs.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Partner with DevOps and platform teams to ensure CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and infrastructure-as-code practices are in place.
  • Collaborate with data architects to ensure optimization models are production-ready and integrated into enterprise applications.
  • Contribute to the development of architectural documentation, best practices, and knowledge-sharing across teams.

Technical Expertise

  • Strong understanding of commodity value chain workflows and applications
  • Experience with cloud-native architecture (Azure preferred) and Angular webdevelopment framework.
  • Experience with microservices, modular monoliths, and containerization (e.g.Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Proficiency in architectural design patterns, software lifecycle management and Dynamic UI generation on JSON Configuration.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, API-first design, and DevOps practices.
  • Experience in integrating with value chain systems, including Trading (e.g., Right Angle, Endur) and data platforms (e.g., Data Lake & Databricks).

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Proven experience mentoring and coaching technical teams.
  • Ability to lead architectural reviews and drive consensus.
  • Experience leading and prioritizing the work of technical teams.
  • Strong communication skills across technical and business audiences.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including developers, data scientists, and business stakeholders.
  • Strategic mindset with a bias for action and delivery.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Operations Research, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in solution architecture, preferably with exposure to Value Chain or Data architecture or similar role.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering enterprise-grade software systems.
  • Experience leading technical teams or cross-functional initiatives is strongly preferred.
  • Skilled in designing and implementing cloud-native solutions using a wide stack of Microsoft Azure services, including Azure App Services, Azure Functions, Azure DevOps, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Database, among others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the oil and gas industry or other asset-intensive sectors (e.g., manufacturing, logistics).
  • Experience with Commodity Value Chain tools (e.g., SigmaFine, Lattitude, FuelFACs, Aspentech) and how they integrate into enterprise applications (e.g.Sales Force, SAP).
  • Understanding of commodity value chain domain such as pipeline scheduling, vessel routing, refining, and blending.
