The Fuel Oil Trader reports to the Product Supply & Trading (PSAT) organization and is accountable for all trading activities (physical and paper) of Fuel Oil products in the LATAM region.  The primary focus of this role is to generate trading earnings and at the same time actively support the system with enterprise value always in mind. It includes the optimal placement of products from equity production, optimal sourcing for marketing systems, integration with global flows and managing financial trading positions.  The trader will work with the Global Fuel Oil Commodity teams connecting the regional activity with that of the other offices in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe to grow arbitrage flows between regions.  The ideal candidate for this position should have experience in fuel oil, refined products, or crude oil trading. Priority will be given to those with expertise in regional fuel oil flows, marine clientele, and local marine infrastructure. However, other associated products trading backgrounds may be considered.  This position will be part of the PSAT Fuels and Feedstocks team that works closely with traders of other commodities on the interplay and optimization of the global fuel oil book.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Trades in both physical and financial commodities in the LATAM and international trading markets, both spot and term, in pursuit of both trading for profit and system optimization.
  • Origination of marine clientele focusing on building flow, optimization and trading around it.
  • Develops trading strategies, initiates and manages physical and financial positions for profit, focuses on asset optimization, and manages price exposure of trading positions.
  • Develop arbitrage flows as part of the Global Fuel Oil Commodity teams.
  • Utilizes the company's position and assets to leverage market opportunities and increase enterprise earnings.
  • Understands trading tools and methodology to collaborate with analysts to model and evaluate market conditions and supply and trading scenarios.
  • Ensure that all activities are conducted within appropriate delegations of authority and conform with Risk Manual Guidelines while demonstrating strong operational excellence.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of trading experience in fuel oil (or other associated product) with strong background in both physical and financial trading.  
  • Knowledge of multiple commodities in different regions, or globally, with experience in working arbitrage flows.
  • Ability to develop trading strategies for short to long term time horizons inter-regionally for physical and financial commodities in pursuit of system optimization and trading for profit.
  • Ability to understand market alternatives and utilize that knowledge to make decisions in the best interest of the enterprise.
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, communication and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of the role of supply and trading on a large corporate scale.
  • Strong entrepreneurial and negotiation skills.
  • Understands commodity risk and reward concepts and evaluation techniques.
  • Understands the importance of measuring, managing, and reporting basis risk and financial exposures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience in trading fuel oil and associated infrastructure, customer, and fundamental market knowledge
  • Experience in building flow, optimization and trading around it.
