Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

The Biodiesel Lab Supervisor is responsible for leading the group that provides analytical support and testing to the facility. This position will actively partner with other organizations at the facility to ensure customer satisfaction.  This position will maximize team efficiency and productivity by utilizing resources effectively, optimizing work schedules, prioritizing daily workload, etc.

They will also contribute to safe, reliable and environmentally sound laboratory operations, reinforcing incident-free team activities and identifying and reporting unsafe conditions within the laboratory.  In addition to productivity goals, the supervisor will develop employees through active coaching and mentoring.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

Manage Personnel and Lab Effectiveness

•            Evaluate lab safety issues and continuously improve safety; work with EHS personnel to ensure conformance with Chevron, EPA and OSHA requirements .

•            Supervise laboratory personnel.

•            Set and communicate priorities.

•            Ensure lab employees perform timely and high-quality tests.

•            Provide coaching and mentoring, give regular feedback, and perform evaluations.

•            Review analytical results for accuracy and precision.

•            Ownership of laboratory results and productivity.

•            Monitor lab operations to ensure a safe, reliable, and efficient work environment.

•            Perform and document laboratory instrument upkeep; perform general laboratory maintenance.

•            Coordinate with the maintenance department to ensure equipment uptime.

•            Manage inventory of laboratory supplies

•            Manage lab waste safely and appropriately.

•            Proficient in laboratory and Microsoft applications.

•            Act as the contact person for all lab issues.

Administer Quality Systems

•            Oversee Quality Systems, including BQ-9000 programs, FSMA, and others.

•            Ensure inspector compliance with the laboratory training program.

•            Initiate Corrective Action process for nonconforming procedures and products.

•            Evaluate test results and generate product test reports.

•            Investigate product quality issues.

Provide Process Support Based on Data

•            Oversee testing and ensure results are recorded per Chevron expectations.

•            Ensure test method performance using Statistical Quality Control (SQC) methodology.

•            Analyze data and generate reports for the management team.

•            Evaluate potential product quality or process performance problems.

•            Conduct lab-scale research projects as needed.

Other frequent duties:

•            Train personnel through the use of SOPs and Standards and record the training.

•            Participate in a proficiency testing program, submit lab results, evaluate the final report for areas where improvement is possible, and implement change as needed.

•            Assist with quality system, testing, and data collection projects impacting multiple REG manufacturing locations.

•            Awareness of operational expense targets.

•            Travel to other REG manufacturing locations and occasional offsite meetings and/or conferences (expected travel requirement < 5%)

Required Qualifications:

  • 4-year Bachelor’s degree – physical or biological sciences, engineering, or equivalent
  • Previous experience as a Lab Supervisor
  • Advanced Excel skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • JD Edwards
  • Reports Now
  • Plant Information (PI)
  • Understanding of mulitvariate statistics
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio, Access)
  • Be available for daily work as required
  • Communicate effectively with customers and co-workers (oral and written)
  • Demonstrate attention to detail
  • Ability to use office equipment (computer, copy machine, calculator, 10-key, etc.)
  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously and in a timely manner
  • Provide personal contact information on an as needed basis for official business purposes

Relocation Options:

Relocation may beconsidered within Chevron parameters.

International Considerations:

Expatriate assignments will not beconsidered.
