about the role

Chevron Australia is seeking an experienced Lead Environmental Specialist – Regulatory Approvals, to join its HSE Team in Perth.  Reporting to the Senior HSE Manager – Environment Regulatory Affairs, this role leads the delivery of complex environmental approvals across Commonwealth and State frameworks. 


With a strong focus on Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage (OPGGS) Environmental assessment and approvals, you will play a key role in ensuring approvals are achieved safely, efficiently and in line with project schedules.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the preparation and/or coordination of Commonwealth and State Environment Plans (EPs) and other offshore approvals e.g. production licenses, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations

  • Provide strategic advice on regulatory requirements, current and emerging risks and approval pathways to support project certainty

  • Coordinate environmental studies, modelling and impact assessments to inform project certainty

  • Manage and provide direction to consultants supporting approvals, and associated studies and approvals

  • Lead engagement with regulators including submission strategy, responses to queries and consultation alignment

To be considered for this role, applicants should have:

  • Proven experience delivering Environment Plans (EPs) with a focus on offshore approvals in the oil and gas industry, securing outcomes across key legislation including the offshore petroleum framework, EPBC Act and WA Environmental Protection Act spanning operations, decommissioning and major projects.

  • Strong working knowledge of the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage (Environment) Regulations 2009, including consultation and acceptance requirements

  • Experience engaging with Commonwealth and State regulators to progress approvals outcomes

  • Strong written and communication skills, with the ability to lead technical documentation and align stakeholders
