Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Construction Engineer through 05/04/2026 at 11:59 p.m. (PST) located at Richmond, CA.

This position reports to a Job Coordinator within the Construction Service Group organization and is responsible for planning/executing the construction and major modifications of Chevron's facilities. Establishes construction procedures, methods, costs, and schedules. Works closely with other functions to ensure projects are completed safely, timely, cost effectively, and are of desired quality.

This position is responsible for safety, efficiency, quality, scheduling, and execution of onshore construction work supporting refinery operations.  The candidate needs to demonstrate the ability to provide effective on-site guidance of construction activities related to small project construction work executed by local contractors.

They will ensure conformance with safety policies, project plans, and enforce design and construction codes (e.g. welding code and inspection techniques, NDE methods, Design Guidelines, Chevron Engineering Standards, SID, Safe work practices, etc.) and should be familiar with SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), PTW (permit-to-work) systems, JSAs (Job Safety Analysis), SIMOPS, risk mitigation plans, contractor safety and safety work processes related to construction activities.

This position is responsible for working with engineering and the Construction Manager to prioritize and plan project work to reduce operating downtime and optimize production.

A knowledge and understanding of constructability and operability for input to the design of new equipment or upgrades is desirable.

Construction Engineers may be assigned to a multi-functional team. These positions support the execution of new projects as well as maintaining the reliability of operating plans in the refinery.  They work with a CM as well as other functional groups to determine project needs, manage capital and/or expense budgets, oversee small project design and construction, and support operational needs. 

They facilitate repairs, additions and new installations of tanks, vessels, reactors, columns, pumps, piping, power distribution and computer controls.

They are responsible for various aspects of small projects, including project identification and scoping, estimation of labor and material costs, cost tracking, and interfacing with plant/field operations. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong work performance in core programs, communication, leadership, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

  • A Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate degree in Construction Management or Engineering or related work experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience as a field, construction, or project support engineer.

  • Familiar business principles and their application to projects (i.e., life cycle cost, ROCE, IRR, Cash Flow, NPV, EV, etc.).

Relocation will be considered.

Expatriates will not be considered.

This position is located at Chevron's Richmond Refinery, in the San Francisco Bay Area. Many folks living in the Bay Area remark on the natural beauty of the surrounding areas, temperate year-round weather, and fabulous weekend trips. The Bay Area is home to some of California's greatest attractions. There are world class cultural centers (nearby San Francisco, Los Angeles within driving distance or short flight), scenic beaches (Monterrey, Santa Cruz, Marin), world renown epicurean centers (San Francisco, Napa, Berkeley), more than a million acres of protected land (National Parks: Yosemite, Point Reyes; State Parks and Regional Parks) and hiking and skiing in California's Sierra Nevada mountains only a few hours away. Richmond is also in close proximity of two international Airports, providing options for longer distant travel. The surrounding areas of can provide a living arrangement for those who desire to live in a lively city environment or for those who prefer a small-town feel. The average temperature all year is in the mid-70’s with little to no humidity and limited rainfall in the winter months.

This role is not eligible for expatriate assignment. Global Offshore Payroll applicants must be able to use current US work authorization or otherwise able to obtain work authorization within 4 months of initiation of immigration activities.   • The anticipated salary range for this position is $104,700 – $ $206,400.
