The Industrial Hygienist is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and controlling occupational health hazards to protect employees, contractors, and the surrounding community. This role supports refinery operations by applying industrial hygiene principles, regulatory requirements, and company standards to ensure compliance, risk reduction, and continuous improvement in occupational health performance.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Applying knowledge of Federal OSHA, California OSHA, ANSI, ACGIH, and NIOSH requirements to refinery operations

  • Implementing and maintaining occupational exposure monitoring programs aligned with Chevron Exposure Standards

  • Conducting qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments for chemical, physical, and biological hazards

  • Interpreting monitoring results and recommending appropriate control measures using the hierarchy of controls

  • Planning, conducting, and documenting occupational hygiene monitoring activities

  • Preparing clear, accurate, and defensible occupational hygiene reports, including exposure determinations and recommendations

  • Maintaining exposure records in accordance with regulatory and Chevron record retention requirements

  • Communicating monitoring results and risk information to a wide range of stakeholders in a clear and timely manner

  • Managing small to moderately complex occupational hygiene projects and prioritizing work to meet operational and regulatory requirements

  • Collaborating with HSE team members, operations, and maintenance personnel to support refinery objectives

  • Supporting regulatory inspections, audits, and interactions with County, State, and Federal agencies as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Health and Environmental Science, or a related field

  • General knowledge of occupational health regulations and exposure assessment methods

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience

  • Experience applying industrial hygiene principles in an industrial, manufacturing, or refinery environment

  • Working knowledge of occupational health regulations and exposure assessment methods

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead projects of moderate scope with limited supervision

  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)

Relocation Options:

Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters.

International Considerations:

Expatriate assignments will not be considered.

The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on his or her skills, experience, and qualifications. Please note that the compensation and benefits listed below are only applicable to successful candidates who are hired onto local United States payroll. 

  • The anticipated salary range for this position is $91,500 - 180,500.
