about the role

Chevron Australia has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Technician to join the Operations and Maintenance team. Reporting to the Maintenance Coordinator, this role is a site based position on one of our Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) processing facilities on a Fly in Fly Out rotational basis.

The Mechanical Technician is responsible for the safe execution of mechanical maintenance activities on rotating and static equipment to support reliable plant operations. Working closely with site operations teams and technical support groups, the role focuses on executing work orders, troubleshooting equipment, and supporting vendor field activities under direction from the Maintenance Coordinator.

Key elements of the role include:

  • Prepare complete and accurate handover logs/notes/programs to communicate with your back to back shift; participate in shift and technician handover meetings.

  • Accept work allocation via the Committed Work Schedule (CWS) and execute maintenance tasks to plan; provide status updates to the coordinator and planners.

  • Support schedule attainment by ensuring work packs are complete, permits are in place, and materials/services are available.

  • Ensure plant operations are compliant with HES procedures and regulations; promote a positive safety culture through developing, implementing, and following safety procedures.

  • Ensure adherence to Chevron OEMS requirements, including procedural reviews, drills, incident/accident reporting, IIR, RCA, spill reporting, and deviation management.

  • Conduct HSE field audits, including Managing Safe Work (MSW), and actively participate in hazard identification, JSA/toolbox talks, and SIMOPS planning.

You will:

  • Execute routine and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment and systems.

  • Diagnose faults, perform troubleshooting, and complete repairs in accordance with procedures and OEM standards.

  • Support external vendors during site visits (e.g., isolations, permit coordination, access to equipment and documentation).

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment history, and findings in the CMMS.

  • Communicate clearly with coordinators, specialists, planners, engineers, and fellow technicians to enable efficient work execution and high schedule compliance.

  • Models and reinforces Safety, Environment and Health requirements in support of Operational Excellence in all aspects of Operations,

  • Leads by example in establishing the principles and accountabilities of “Operational Discipline” assuring that “every task is done the right way every time”.

  • Proactively promotes and demonstrates commitment to an IFO culture

To be considered for this role, applicants should have:

  • Mechanical trade qualification (e.g., Certificate III/IV in Mechanical Engineering/Mechanical Fitting or equivalent).

  • Fully conversant with CMMS (JDE) and able to read technical drawings and work packs.

  • Demonstrated experience working in a Major Hazard Facility or equivalent high hazard industrial environment (e.g. LNG, oil & gas, petrochemical, refinery).

  • Demonstrated experience related to the maintenance of rotating equipment; not limited to pumps, centrifugal compressors, and gas turbines.

  • Demonstrated experience related to the maintenance of static equipment, not limited to heat exchangers, vessel internals, external inspections, and valves.

  • Demonstrated experience on or not limited to bolt torquing, bolt tensioning and basic lifting and rigging equipment.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
