About the position:

The Safety Specialist – Turnarounds is responsible for ensuring Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) deliverables and HSE support activities for Turnaround events are completed on time and meet stakeholder requirements.This includes using the Enterprise IMPACT for Turnarounds philosophy, working with cross functional teams to review work scopes, develop safety plans and training profiles, conduct hazard analyses, and creating communication materials to support OE objectives. This position will be the primary steward of IMPACT phase 1-4 HSE deliverables and activities, and phase 7 deliverables and activities.

This position will report to the Workforce Safety Team Lead within the HSE function of the Chevron ENGINE in Bengaluru, India.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be the primary point of contact for HSE support for phases 1-4 (inclusive) and phase 7 of the Turnaround process

  • Participate as a member of the Turnaround Event Core Team and attend planned meetings

  • Participate as a member of the Turnaround Event Working Team and attend planned meetings

  • Develop OE messages and Turnaround Event HSE risk / safeguard messaging, for use in leadership and contractor forums (PowerPoint)

  • Development and implementation of HES management system deliverables in support of Turnaround activities

  • Assist in developing or reviewing execution work packs and reviewing 3rd party work method statements and safe work practices

  • Work with contract owners, scope owners, V&V coaches and 3rd party contractor HES management to ensure Chevron HES requirements are communicated, understood and safeguards are verified

  • Working to identify and resolve HES standardization improvement opportunities across assets within areas of responsibility

  • Provide remote support for site HES personnel for Turnaround phase 5 and phase 6 activities

  • Ensure that all turnaround activities comply with HSE related regulatory requirements, company procedures and standards, and other applicable safety regulations. Stay updated on changes in safety standards and implement necessary updates to company procedures

  • Develop, update, and communicate safety plans, work packs, policies, procedures, and training programs specific to turnaround crews and contractors

  • Develop contractor mobilization information packs for turnaround staff and contractors, ensuring all employees are informed about proper safety procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE) use, and emergency protocols

  • Utilize IT tools for analysis of data and trends to identify hazards, root causes, and areas of improvement to provide actionable insights to enhance workplace safety

  • Perform hazard analyses for turnaround activities, identifying potential hazards and recommending control measures to mitigate risks. Work with site assurance coaches to have HAZID safeguards verified prior to work commencing

  • Support incident investigation and reporting of any incidents, accidents, or near-misses related to turnaround activities, identify root causes, and assist in the development and implementation of corrective actions

  • Ensure the proper safeguards are included in the permit-to-work system, especially for high-risk turnaround tasks such as confined space entry, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and hot work

  • Collaborate with the emergency response team to develop and update emergency procedures relevant to turnaround activities, ensuring the team is prepared for potential incidents

  • Monitor external contractors performing turnaround work, through training completion (MyPass), eCoW completed permit audits, company and contractor safeguard assurance data, and COEM feedback, to assess compliance with the company’s safety policies and procedures

  • Maintain OE/HSE data and systems of record in line with Event requirements, including SalesForce (IMPACT for Turnarounds), 3PC SharePoint, II&R Impact, MyPass

  • Identify opportunities to improve turnaround safety processes, reduce workplace hazards, and promote a proactive safety culture, including the formal Phase 7 Lessons Learned review


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field

  • Experience in safety management, preferably in turnaround or industrial environments

  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory regulations, particularly related to turnaround activities, including isolation of hazardous energy, hot work, confined space entry, and hazard communication

  • Experience conducting safety training and implementing safety management systems

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and mitigate risks

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software. Ability to learn or use JDE, eCoW, Salesforce and similar databases to interrogate work planning, and work pack and permit development


Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, supporting business requirements across the world. Accordingly, the work hours for employees will be aligned to support business requirements. The standard work week will be Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm or 1.30pm to 10.30pm.
